Create a new sketch using the sketch tool.
Using the text tool, create your text and make it 10 mm
tall with the dimensions tool. Make sure you don't accidentally give it constraints!
Lowercase characters such as "qypgj" all have problems extending below the box. Please use all uppercase letters if you have these letters in your text.
At this point, your text should still be blue. If it's not call someone over and we will help.
Click on the center construction line of the text and the origin point. Then add a Midpoint constraint (Shift+M). Note to testers: Do I keep shortcuts?
Click the Green Check to complete your sketch. Then create a new one, this sketch will be for the frame of the keychain.
In your new sketch, create a center rectangle and make it 3 mm
larger than your text. Use the dimension tool and click on the edge of the text box and the parallel side of your frame.
Select all 4 sides of the rectangle you just created and use the offset tool to create the border of the keychain. Make it 1.5 mm
larger than the other rectangle.
Using a corner rectangle, create a rectangle starting from the inner frame. Then add the equal constraint to the sides shown below to dimension the loop.
Add a Coincident constraint to the top of the loop to align it to the top of the text.
To make the loop have a hole, we will offset the rectangle/square we just made. Click on all 4 sides then use the offset tool.
Press the green checkmark to complete the sketch. Congratulations! All the sketching is now done. We can now bring the keychain into 3D!
We can separate the keychain into 2 "Layers" one tall and one short. The tall layer has the text, walls and loop while the short layer has the base. This means we will need 2 extruded features.
Select extrude and select the "base" of the keychain. Set the depth to 1.5 mm. THIS IS IMPORTANT BECAUSE IT IS A MULTI-COLOUR 3D PRINT.
Click the green check to complete the extrude.
As you might have noticed after that extrude, one of your sketches got hidden. This is a useful feature as you move deeper into CAD and single-use drawings get complex. For now, we need to use it again to unhide it.
After that, we will again select extrude and this time select everything except for the base. I recommend doing this from the bottom.
Click the green check to complete the extrude.
Play around and see how you can change this to fit the way you like!
This guide will continue to show how to use fillets to round the edges but you can do what you would like
To make what we have made the closest, use the fillet tool and select all of the XY corners and set the radius to 2.25 mm
You can also do the same with a chamfer.
You're done! You can submit your part: here
